You and Me- disclosure

I have chosen this song,as my ideas where to do a video on a love story, and this video and song really expresses that. From looking at this video it has changed my perspective on what I am going to do. Beforehand I was going to have the genre very alternative, whereas now I like the idea of an upbeat/ dance type of song. This is becaause I have more ideas for this type of gerne and will enjoy it more then doing a depressing song.

Disclosure- you and me lyrics (Timings)

(Music starts at 3 seconds)
(Music plays and singing comes in at 0:25 seconds)

0:25  I’ll be giving up, oh
0:33  Home is where the heart is,
0:35  And I gave it to you in a paper bag
0:40  Even though it’s tarnished
0:43  You told me it’s the best you ever had
0:46  You got my secret combination
0:50  And I don’t be giving that out easily
0:54  With my deepest dedication
0:58  You can tell that you were brought the same for me

Chorus:
1:16  So please don’t let go, cause you know exactly what we found
1:23  So please don’t let go my darling
1:28  You keep me locked up underground
1:32  It’s gonna be you and me
1:35  It’s gonna be everything you’ve ever dreamed
1:40  It’s gonna be who and me
1:43  It’s gonna be everything and everything, we’re meant to be
1:53 We’re meant to be

Verse 2:
2:01  Rolling with the punches
2:04  So they won’t get inside our happiness
2:08  Love is always hunted,
2:11  But your arrows are soaring through my chest
2:15  Cause you know you give me something
2:19  Yeah you give me exactly what I need
2:23  Got my blood pumping
2:26  You know you always draw more blood, I bleed

Chorus:
2:44  So please don’t let go, cause you know exactly what we found
2:52  So please don’t let go my darling
2:56  You keep me locked up underground
3:00  It’s gonna be you and me
3:04  It’s gonna be everything you’ve ever dreamed
3:08  It’s gonna be who and me
3:11  It’s gonna be everything and everything, we’re meant to be

3: 17  In you’re big house on the hills
3: 20  Where you keeá¹— your dollar bills
3:24  And you stashed my heart
3:26  Somewhere in the dark
3:28  Keep it safe I know you will
3:33  Know you will, know you will
3:36  Know you will
3:40  I know you will

History of chosen Genre

House music is a genre that originated in the town of Chicago in America at around the early 1980s. The genre is a type of electronic dance music which originally popular in the US. With house music already massive on the 80s dance-scene it was only a matter of time before it would penetrate the UK pop charts. Whereas the genre of music now, has migrated to various countries, becoming popular all over the world. Many artists who have been very successful in this genre are people like Disclosure, Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Steve Angello, Avicii and many other DJs. It is a very different type of music and from this a lot of people have taken a liking to it. From the genre being so successful, and the listening audience increasing, many festivals have started due to this genre. For example one of the best festivals of this day is a festival of this type of genre, Tomorrowland. This festival is huge, having other 185,000 people from over 75 countries around the worldcome every year. Furthermore in Britain experiments in the genre boosted its appeal. House and rave clubs like Lakota, Cream emerged across Britain, hosting house and dance scene events. A new generation of clubs like, Liverpool's Cream and the Ministry of Sound were opened to provide a venue for more commercial sounds. Major record companies began to open "super clubs" promoting their own acts.

Overall this genre of music has had a massive impact on the generation of music since it has originated, forming new sub genres, festivals, clothing and other aspect s all across Britain and the world.

Music Video Styles and Ideas

I chose this video to reflect the type of music genre I would like to re-create when coming to creating my music video. I like the lighting and the type of darkish mood throughout the video. I think it really relates to the song and gives a really good effect. It gives a good representation of the mood of the song from the use of tones and colour and the genre itself. The formal conventions are very clearly expressed through the 4 key elements of cinematography, mise en scene, sound and editing. The mise en scene is a large contributor as the clothing is shown very scruffy and worn, linking in with the song and what they are trying to represent.the lighting is very dark and there is a lot of shadowing through-out the video.   The use of cinematography is a good way to represent the form as a lot of the shots are used with steadi cam and they are fast paced. This links in with the editing and sound of the video. For example when the sound picks up so does the editing and cinematography. If the music becomes fast paced, so do these other elements. The editing has a lot of fast cuts which links with other forms of the media text.

I want to tell a story in my video by it relating to the lyrics. For example, the music video' Always' -by Blink 182 I like because when I listen to it, a few ideas come to mind from the lyrics. I think of two people in love and the video telling the story of them being happy, their arguments etc. I only like the actual song not the video as I would create it a lot different to how they did. I like the idea of a couple being in love but keeping it to the genre of indie rock music. I like the whole formal conventions of shadowing and dark lighting like the video By Christina Perri 'A thousand years'. Her video at the beginning has dark shadowing which represents love and life and how delicate it all is.

Chosen Brief - Music Video

A promotion package for the release for an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following 3 options...

* a website homepage for the band
* a cover for its release as part of a digipack (CD/DVD)
*a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package)

I chose this brief as it looks very interesting and fun the create. I think I will enjoy that brief the most as I am very keen on the music industry and therefore will be able to use my interest and portray a strong piece of work.
