Inspirations

A few things have given me inspirations for my music video and this is from me researching and looking at other artists music videos. From looking at the video by Cher Lloyd ' Want u back' gave me the idea to create a montage edit in my video. Furthermore this helps me as I have spare images from Hull fair which I am going to use. I like the idea of a image then turning into a video. I want to do this by having a scrap book full of images of the couple and then the image turns into a video and it then creates a flash back of memories. I am going to do this by taking a video of them posing and print that out as a picture and put it in the scrap book. Then using the editing suite I am then going to use the video which I have used as a picture and edit it together so then it goes into a video.
These videos gave me inspiration for my video in various ways as they all have differences but similarities as well. All the videos are based on a love story but it may have a different meaning/ narrative. I like some aspects of the videos and it has given me ideas and inspiration to base in my music video

  • Rhianna 'We found love'
  • Katy Perry 'The one that got away'
  • Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding 'I need your love'
  • Cher Lloyd 'I want you back'

I like this video as it really represents the love and passion the couple have for each other through the use of mise en scene, cinematography and editing. Use of cinematography has a lot of close ups and this reflects the emotion of the couple. Furthermore the narrative is very appealing and makes the audience want to carry on watching. Ideas that they have done in this video which I like is when she writes yours in the sparkler. I would like to do this in my video but her write 'You' and 'Me'. Furthermore when they have the fireworks in the background and they kiss, this really emphasizes the passion they have for each other and it really sets the mood.

I like this video as again it represents the passion and love the couple have for each other. Furthermore the narrative is really interesting and different. The mood is really well represented with the use of mise en scene as when the mood goes down the lighting goes a lot duller and dark. Where as when they are happy it is very bright and vibrant. Furthermore it has images of the couple together which i like on the old fashioned camera. I am kind of doing that type of idea in my music video as it looks effective and makes the audience understand who my music video and what its going to be about. It uses a lot of mid shots and close ups which represent the happiness of the couple as it reflects the mood and emotion which is being experienced.

This music video links in with the theory of Bulmer & Katz (1974) 'uses in Gratification model' on personal identity. This part of the theory explains how being a subject of the media allows us to reaffirm the identity and positioning of ourselves within society. Anyone can relate to this video for example old people as she plays an old woman, looking back at her life and letting go the love of her life. Older people can relate to that. Another example would be when shes in the flashback/ memory. Young people can relate to that as they are young and could be madly in love. Or even people who have no relation can still enjoy it as its a very moving and effective music video.

Furthermore we can link it in with the personal relationships part of the theory. As Katy Perry can be seen as a role model to many people all around the world, especially the younger generation. This is because her fans craete a bond with her when either seeing her on TV, in a music video or even at a live performance. This is why when the man dies in this music video it leaves you feeling quite depressed and sad. And this is because we have created a bond with her, seeing her story and happiness.

I like the concept of this video as it is a home taken video. They have filmed it themselves and its about the actually artists themselves. It really engages the audience because it isn't fictional, these 2 artists actually go out in real life and its a video of them two together in love and what they get up to. Its just a really effective video as the viewers can really relate to it and feel the bond between the two. I would like to do something like this in my video as it reflects how happy they both are and the connection they have is really strong. Its really natural reactions and isn't set up, it doesn't have a script, they have just pressed record and filmed themselves having fun and this is interesting to watch.

I like this video as it using montage editing throughout the video and I want to do this in my music video. It sets the story before its even begun as it gives the audience an understanding of what its about through use of images. It's an effective use of editing and I want to produce that in my music video. It just makes it more interesting and appealing as it looks good and its different. It just makes it better then just filming an image.

Location Ideas

To create my music video i would like to use various locations. One location I was going to use was Hull fair and I did film there and get everything all prepared. Unfortunately I lost majority of my footage from there. The only footage I have left are a few photos and some broken videos. Although I am still going to use everything I got back as I had put in the effort and work to gain it. The video footage I managed to gain back I am going to use in the end of my video. I spent quite a bit of money to to gain the footage I wanted and here is a list of the footage which I unfortunately lost.

  • The couple on the bumper cars
  • Them on the waltzers
  • Footage of the waltzers
  • Some of the rides
  • The lights from the rides
  • Them stood near a ride
  • Them getting food
  • Getting sweets
  • Going on a stall and winning a teddy ( hits bullzye)
  • On a fun house
  • Walking round

I chose hull fair as it is a huge attraction for hull and it gives the audience an insight of where they are. Furthermore the lights and atmosphere was a main attraction for me as it really sets the scene of a couple being in love and empathizes their happiness.

Another location would be Bridlington. Even though none of the fair will be open due to the season coming up to winter now I have still got a lot of ideas to do there. I chose Bridlington as it is a small quite and cute little seaside town that is a nice day out for a couple. It relates to a couple being in love as there are things for them to do there together and just enjoy the day out. For example

  • go on the beach
  • amusements
  • walk around the town
  • go in some gift shops
  • go bowling
  • fish and chip shops

A third place for locations would be in Abi's (Girl in video) House. At the beginning they are staying at her house and I film things around the house as I am introducing the couple to the audience. This is to give the audience an idea and image of who the couple are and what the video is going to be about. Furthermore the first lyric says 'Home is where the heart is' and they are at home when this is said. Furthermore I am going to film them having a hot chocolate as this is a type of homely gesture.  Examples of what I will be filming are:
  • Hot chocolate
  • Hall way
  • Photo's of couple
  • Shoes
  • Back door step
  • Kitchen
  • Bedroom

Another location is my back garden as I have got some fireworks and sparklers and I am going to light my chimney aire and get the couple to toast marshmallows. I chose this location as I think its really sweet and cute setting for a young couple in love to be in. I got this idea from the video by 'Rhianna, We Found Love' as there is a part where the couple have fireworks going off and they are sat round watching them. Furthermore the sparklers i have an idea to write out the words 'You' and 'Me'. I again got this idea from that music video as Rhianna writes the word 'Yours' and I find it really effective and appealing.

Props

To create my music video I will need various things to help me create the settings I want. This creates realism and makes it verisimilitude if I actually use real props. Furthermore it shows I have put more thought into my work and though about every detail in my music video. Thing I will need for my music video are...

  • Fireworks- I got this idea from the music video by Rhianna 'We found love'. I liked it because it represents a cute couple activity and sets the mood of them being in love. The lights from the fireworks link with the lyrics from the song  'everything you ever dreamed' and symbolizes the dream type thing.

  • Sparklers- I want to use sparklers because i would like to write 'You' and 'me' with them. This will be quite tricky but I am willing to give it a go. This is because I think its a really effective idea and is really interesting and appealing to the eye.

  • Scrap book- I need to create a scrap book with various images of the couple in. I am going to use it at the beginning for a montage edit and then near the end of the music video. I came up with this idea as it fits in with my narrative and it reflects their passion and love for each other. I am going to use images of the couple together when they have originally done things together. This creates verisimilitude as it is them naturally together and i have made no manipulation.

  • Heart and key locket-  I need one of these because it links in with the lyrics from the song. It says 'You got my secret combination' and 'You keep me locked up' and when this is said i will place a shot of her wearing the necklace comes on screen. This is to represent her love and passion for the boy and that he keeps her love and isn't going to leave, as then the lyrics say after how she doesn't give it out easily.

Target Audience

The audience that I am targeting at is teenagers as they are the main target audience which use all different types of media such as music, music videos, films, apps etc. And therefore this makes them the most popular target audience to aim at in the whole media industry. Therefore I would make lots of hits and sells from this as this audience range are the main ones who use all different types of media. Furthermore my genre of music, House music, is listened to by mainly teenagers. Additionally this type of music is what is played at parties, clubs and festivals, which all aims at the age category.  From this it creates more of a bigger audience as for example if a club plays my song, hundreds of people at once are going to listen to it and it be promoted. Other examples of media use is web 2.0, the internet. YouTube is a main example for viewing music as that is where majority of people listen to their music as it is free. Furthermore things like the iTunes store not only sells music but gives you a snippet of the song. This can entice the audience to buy it as they listen to it first and then can download it. The audience for all these social media are mainly the teenagers category as it came around in their generation so therefore they are going to grow up with it.  Where as for the older generation it has only come about in the last 20/30 years or so, so they find it more difficult to work and pick up. Unlike these youngsters.

Teenagers are the main target audience for majority of media concepts e.g: music, social networking.  Music genres of today are mainly aimed at the audience teenagers as they are the mas audience when it comes to media. This is because the media aims the music and social networking at them. For example the genre pop music is aimed at the audience teenagers from the use of mise en scene, lyrics, music videos and where it is advertised. The artist Jessie J is a massive pop artist who is advertised in pop magazines. This is a genre convention for pop as a pop artist is being represented in a pop magazine. Furthermore the only audience for pop magazines is aimed at teenagers and possibly a bit younger. The songs are mainly based upon love or finding it or losing it. All other genres conventions link into this type of audience and this is just shown from the layout, use of colour, imagery and typography.
Top of the pops is only one example of many other music magazines out there but all music magazines are aimed at teenagers. This is because they are a much bigger target as they want to see whats happening in the celebrity world, they want to know how to look good and if their favorite artist is placed on the cover, they are more likely to buy it. They want to know about behind the scenes, how it was made, interviews with the artist etc. This is other ways of promoting the music video because even though they cant watch it in the magazine they can still be informed about it.

For as part of my music video I wanted to film at hull fair with the couple in my video. I filmed a lot and thought I had got some really good shots and was excited to use them in my video. I got shots like of them on the Walters, buying sweets, near the big wheel, on bumper cars, on a fun house and walking round the fair. Unfortunately I lost majority of my footage due to the SD card corrupting on me before I could even back up all my film. I have drawn a lot of story board as well for hull fair which I now cannot use as I have lost all my film and I cannot go back as hull fair isn't there anymore. I am very upset about what happened but I am just going to get back on my feet and carry on and think of some more ideas which can fill that space in my song. I managed to save a few pictures which I am going to show as evidence on what I was going to do.

Now from this happening I have had to rethink about what I am going to do and I did this by picking myself back up and researching and looking at other music videos. For example the music video by Cher Lloyd 'want you back' has use of montage editing with images. I thought I might as well use the footage I have gained back, then use no footage at all. As you can see I have put the work in and effort, its just unfortunate that I lost it.

From the footage I have left I am still going to use it for my Digi pack for still images in frames at the beginning to give the audience an understanding about the video and who and what its going to be about.
